The Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf was founded in 1869. The school's mission is to provide the highest-quality educational programs for deaf and hard-of-hearing students of all ages, their families and others who may benefit. In a caring, nurturing, yet challenging environment, students have the opportunity to reach their highest potential--academically, socially and personally. Together with their families, we encourage students to become independent and self-supporting. Our Choices for Children program provides early intervention services to deaf and hard-of-hearing infants, toddlers and their families in Western Pennsylvania. Our experienced, certified teachers have been the cornerstone of this primarily home-based program, where visits to the home or daycare are conducted on a regular basis. The Choices for Children staff provides comprehensive and objective information, advocacy, and training in language, audition and speech for deaf infants, toddlers and their families.
