Recording For The Blind & Dyslexic Inc

Mission statement: Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic, a nonprofit volunteer organization, is the nation's educational library serving people who cannot effectively read standard print because of visual impairment, dyslexia or other physical disability. Our mission is to create opportunities for individual success by providing, and promoting the effective use of, accessible educational materials.
We record textbooks onto highly navigable CSs.

Recording for the Blind was founded in 1948 to ensure that blinded World War II veterans got the college education to which they were entitled under the GI Bill.

Today, we serve more than 240,000 disabled students of all ages with 20 units operating 29 professionally equipped studios in 16 states and the District of Columbia. In 1995, recognizing that 70% of its users had learning disabilities, RFB officially changed its name to Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic (RFB&D). Over the past 57 years, RFB&D has created the nation's largest library of recorded educational materials, encompassing a wide range of subjects from literature and languages to mathematics, science and vocational-technical training.

The RFB&D Arizona Unit was established in 1951. We have recording studios located in Phoenix and Sun City. Over 220 dedicated volunteers, giving over 4,000 hours of service annually, work day and evening shifts to record more than 350 textbooks for thousands of print-disabled students across Arizona and the country. These volunteers specialize in reading law, medicine, higher mathematics like calculus and physics, engineering and sciences. Last year 3,500 Arizona borrowers in 100 local schools used these recorded textbooks. RFB&D Arizona Unit's primary objective is to reach an additional 25,000 Arizona students by 2010.

These highly navigable textbooks allow students to keep up with their peers. It levels' the educational field for students with disabilities.
