Established in 1980, Access Living of Metropolitan Chicago is one of the country's first federally funded Centers for Independent Living. We are a cross-disability organization, governed and staffed by a majority of people with disabilities, who operate with a supreme understanding of the importance of disability rights. Over the past 28 years, in addition to increasing the independence of more than 45,000 consumers, our service and advocacy activities have: increased community activism and political awareness among disabled people; made public transit and education accessible; and improved architectural and communication accessibility in Chicago and nationwide.
